Police probe death of ex-Ondo SDP candidate Akingboye

The Lagos State Police Command has launched a forensic investigation into the death of former Ondo State governorship candidate under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Bamidele Akingboye.

WESTERN POST had reported that Akingboye, widely known as OBA, died on Wednesday, September 3, at his VGC home.

A video by Channels TV showed detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, deployed on Saturday to his Victoria Garden City (VGC), Ajah, residence, which was cordoned off as investigators gathered evidence and samples.

Family members and domestic staff were also questioned on the events leading to his sudden death. His son, Samuel Akingboye, said the family needed clarity.

“I saw him the day before, so it’s very, very shocking just to see this happen. That’s why I opened the case to know how he died, because I wasn’t getting any explanation,” he said.

His daughter, Michaella Akingboye, appealed to the public to ignore speculation. “I believe that the police is currently carrying out an investigation, which I believe they’ll carry out diligently. The truth will surely come to light. The whole family stands behind the police,” she said.

The Police Commissioner, Olorundare Jimoh, assured that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.

“We are not going to leave any stone unturned to ensure that we get to the roots of the cause of his death. And where there’s any reasonable suspicion that some people are involved, we ensure that such figures are apprehended,” he said.

On Sunday, the Command confirmed the probe on its official X handle, noting that the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, had been directed to discreetly investigate the case.
