The Ekiti State Police Command has begun investigating the death of a middle-aged man who reportedly took his own life after allegedly attacking his daughter in Ise Ekiti, Ise/Orun Local Government Area of the state.
The man, identified only as Segun, was found lifeless behind his residence in the early hours of Sunday.
Residents said the incident followed an alleged attempt by Segun to harm his elder daughter before his death.
A resident, Mr Patrick Abayomi, said the situation threw the neighbourhood into shock as people rushed to the scene after hearing distressing noises.
He added that the injured girl, said to be about 12 years old, was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where she was reported to be responding to treatment.
Abayomi also said efforts were being made by community members to handle the situation in line with local customs.
Another resident, who spoke anonymously, described the incident as disturbing and expressed concern over the psychological state of the deceased.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of Ekiti State Command, Superintendent Sunday Abutu, said the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, had ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.
