The Oyo State Police Command has uncovered a human trafficking ring operating in Ibadan, the state capital.

During the operation, officers rescued 84 individuals who were reportedly being held captive in a residential building in the Orogun area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims, believed to be nationals of the Democratic Republic of Congo, were lured into Nigeria with false promises of lucrative employment opportunities.

Authorities also alleged that the traffickers extorted large sums of money, paid in U.S. dollars, from the victims’ families under the guise of securing the supposed jobs.

The rescued individuals are currently receiving care and support at the Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, as further investigations continue to uncover the full scope of the operation.

The Oyo State Police Command, while calling for calm, assured the public that all perpetrators would be brought to justice.
