Police warn against activities of unauthorized transport unions in Ogun
The Ogun State Police Command has issued a stern warning to unauthorized transport unions operating illegally across the state, declaring their activities as unlawful and a threat to public peace.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the Command noted that certain unapproved union operators have been causing disruptions, inciting conflict, and clashing with legally registered transport unions in the public transportation sector.
Citing a communiqué dated July 8, 2025, from the Ogun State Ministry of Transportation, the police reiterated that only a specified list of unions and organizations are authorized to operate and collect revenue within the state’s transport system.
The recognized unions include the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) for buses and taxis, and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in collaboration with Ogun Stations Operation Management Services (OSOMS) and Ogun State Park Management Services (OGSPAM). Others are ACOMORAN, AMORAN, ROMO, ROTO, TORAN, and TWORA.
According to the Command, any group or individual operating outside this list is considered illegal and will face enforcement actions, including arrest and prosecution.
The police urged any unrecognized group seeking legal operation within the transport sector to follow due process by registering with the relevant government agencies.
Reaffirming its commitment to public order and safety, the Ogun State Police Command warned that it would not hesitate to take legal action against anyone found to be undermining peace and lawful conduct within the state’s transportation sector.
