The Osun State Police Command has issued a stern warning to cultists and troublemakers planning to mark August 8, 2024, as a day to celebrate cultism, urging them to abandon any such plans immediately.

In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, it was revealed that credible intelligence had uncovered plans by some cult groups to celebrate the day. The Command advised these groups to jettison such plans as their activities are under close surveillance.

Opalola emphasized that the Command has implemented comprehensive security measures to ensure a safe and peaceful environment during this year’s Osun Osogbo festival, which is expected to attract numerous tourists and feature a variety of traditional activities.

To address potential security concerns, including the threat posed by cultist gatherings, the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies and the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), has taken proactive steps to maintain order. The police have made it clear that any unlawful gatherings or assemblies that may disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the state will not be tolerated.

She further warned that plans to mark August 8th could lead to bloodshed and the destruction of property. The Command urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and wards, stressing the importance of lawful behavior. Any individuals found to be posing a threat to law and order will face strict consequences.

The Command also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or violations of the law.
