An Ibadan-based cleric, Kayode Amusan, popularly known as Agbala Gabriel, has come under intense scrutiny following allegations of sexual misconduct and mismanagement of donations meant for sick individuals.
The pastor who built a reputation on social media as a compassionate cleric that supports the vulnerable and indigent, often post videos of prayers and fundraising appeals online. However, his reputation and integrity were recently challenged by a series of accusations circulating on platforms such as Facebook, TikTok and Instagram.
One of the many controversies involves a woman identified as Morenikeji, who reportedly suffers from a spinal condition and whose medical case had previously attracted public donations. It was reported that the cleric used part of the funds raised for the woman’s surgery for church-related activities despite the initial sum not being completed.
Amusan, however, has come forward to deny the claim, stating that the woman voluntarily offered the assistance to his ministry. According to him, he initially declined the offer but she insisted on contributing.
Weighing in on the issue, popular Nollywood Actress, Foluke Daramola, revealed that she had earlier helped in raising funds for the patient’s surgery, adding that she only withdrew her effort when she learned that the patient’s family went to seek help from the cleric. Corroborating her claims, the patient’s daughter affirmed in the same video that indeed her mother was taken to the pastor, albeit, was eventually taken away due to concerns over how the situation was being handled.
In a string of developing events, another allegation surfaced online when a blogger known as Iyalaje Courtroom claimed during a live broadcast that the cleric had been involved in mismanagement of donations and sexual relationships with women, noting that a former backup singer in the church, identified as Bolu, became pregnant for the pastor and later gave birth to twins.
Similarly, the accusation was also echoed by charity advocate Princess Adeyinka, who said she personally intervened when the issue first came to light, and urged the cleric to take responsibility for his actions.
Reacting to the allegations, Kayode Amusan, the cleric, insisted that the claims were false and part of attempts to tarnish his reputation, adding that it is not new or strange for famous men of God like Pastor Adeboye to be attacked via social media.
