Present economic reforms, key in achieving national development, says Hamzat

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, emphasized the importance of current economic reforms in Nigeria during a special prayer session held on Thursday to mark his 60th birthday.
The event, organized by the Lagos State Government at the Community Central Mosque in Alausa, brought together political leaders, traditional rulers, religious figures, and members of the state’s executive council.
Dr. Hamzat urged Nigerians to remain patient with the administration of President Bola Tinubu, which he praised for implementing bold and comprehensive reforms aimed at revitalizing the nation’s economy.
“These reforms are necessary to reposition the country for economic growth,” Hamzat stated, while reassuring Nigerians that the ongoing efforts will yield positive outcomes despite the current challenges.
The deputy governor also stressed the need for national unity, warning that it is crucial to prevent the country from disintegrating during this period of transition.
In his speech, Dr. Hamzat commended Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his dedication and passion for the development of the state.
He specifically highlighted the governor’s commitment to completing the long-awaited Fourth Mainland Bridge project, which is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in Lagos.
“Just about two days ago, Mr. Governor was still telling me that Femi, that Fourth Mainland Bridge project must be done. The passion he brings to the job is uncommon,” Hamzat said.
He also lauded Sanwo-Olu for overseeing large-scale infrastructure projects typically undertaken by national governments, such as the state’s ambitious rail line initiatives.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his goodwill message, paid tribute to his deputy, describing him as a hardworking, loyal, and dependable partner.
He dismissed claims that their relationship would be strained, stating that they have worked harmoniously to advance Lagos’ development agenda. “Contrary to belief in some quarters, we have worked perfectly together to transform the state without rancor,” Sanwo-Olu noted.
He further praised Hamzat’s administrative expertise, work ethic, and dedication, acknowledging that their bond extends beyond their current roles.
The governor emphasized that Hamzat’s contributions have not only earned him respect in Lagos but have also been recognized by his peers in other states.
