Presidency slams ADC over comments on Buhari’s burial

By Kunle Sanni –
The Presidency has responded strongly to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following its criticism of the Federal Government’s handling of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s burial, calling the party’s remarks “dishonest, shameless, and politically motivated.”
In a statement issued on Saturday by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, the Presidency dismissed the ADC’s allegations that the government exploited Buhari’s death for political gains, describing them as “an opportunistic exercise in manufactured outrage.”
“The ADC is the one exploiting Buhari’s death for political attention, not this government,” Dare said. “They have chosen to dance on his grave for relevance.”
The response follows the ADC’s earlier accusation that the Tinubu administration used the late president’s memory and his grieving family—particularly his son, Yusuf Buhari—as part of a public relations stunt aimed at gaining support in the North and among Buhari loyalists.
The Presidency rejected the accusation as baseless and insulting, saying it undermined the genuine grief expressed by millions of Nigerians who mourned Buhari’s passing.
“President Tinubu’s administration is neither desperate nor searching for cheap popularity. The late President Buhari was honoured with complete dignity, as seen by the attendance of world leaders and the millions who joined in mourning nationwide,” the statement said.
Highlighting the administration’s achievements, Dare pointed to the stabilisation of the naira, the harmonisation of exchange rates, and an increase in oil production to 1.7 million barrels per day as evidence of solid governance.
He also mentioned the launch of the student loan scheme (NELFUND) with over 400,000 beneficiaries, and ongoing infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Road, the Consumer Credit Scheme, and newly established regional development commissions.
