Former President Jonathan, wife forced me out of PDP — Amaechi

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said he was forced out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan, over control of the political structure in Rivers State.

Amaechi made the claim on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, where he recounted his experiences in both the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I was literally chased out of the PDP. The president, Goodluck and his wife, took over the political structure in Rivers State and forced me out. The same thing happened in APC,” he said.

He said his exit from the PDP in 2013 followed what he described as political injustice and internal party struggles at the time.

Amaechi added that he would always speak out against injustice, insisting he would not remain silent when wronged.

“I will never keep quiet in the face of injustice. When I speak up, they begin to plan to make me irrelevant,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor also said he would support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar if he emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

He, however, stressed that considerations such as age and capacity should be taken into account in choosing national leaders.
