Operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command have arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a locally made pistol in Ado-Ekiti.

The suspect, identified as Adeleke Tosin, was apprehended on Wednesday following intelligence reports that he was seen within the metropolis carrying a firearm.

Police authorities disclosed that officers of the Rapid Response Squad were swiftly mobilised to the area after receiving the tip-off.

The command said the operatives, after sustained efforts, successfully tracked and arrested the suspect.

Preliminary findings, according to the police, linked the suspect to the Supreme Eiye Confraternity.

The command further alleged that he had been involved in recent cult-related clashes in Ado-Ekiti and nearby communities, which reportedly resulted in fatalities.

A locally made pistol was recovered from him, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members connected to him from the group.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Micheal Falade, urged residents to remain vigilant, saying, “We appeal to members of the public to support the police with timely and credible information, as we remain committed to ridding the state of criminal elements.”
