President Tinubu approves Nigeria’s hosting of CAF General Assembly, CAF Awards

President Bola Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s hosting of the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), alongside the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony.

The approval was announced during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, following a high-level meeting between President Tinubu and CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe.

Also present at the meeting were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON); Special Adviser to the CAF President, Amaju Melvin Pinnick (OFR); and CAF Acting General Secretary, Samson Adamu.

The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly, scheduled for October 2026, will convene key stakeholders in African football, including presidents of CAF’s 54 member associations, representatives of the six zonal unions, and senior football administrators from across the continent.

The CAF Awards ceremony, regarded as one of the continent’s premier football events, recognises and celebrates outstanding achievements by players, coaches, officials and teams in African football.

Nigeria’s hosting of both events is expected to further strengthen the country’s position as a major destination for international sporting events and reinforce its commitment to the development of football on the African continent.
