President Bola Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, on the occasion of his 50th birthday.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President joined the Oyedele family, friends, and well-wishers in celebrating the renowned tax expert, accountant, and economist, describing him as a symbol of excellence, resilience, and innovation in both public and private service.
Highlighting Mr. Oyedele’s inspiring journey from his humble beginnings in Ikaram-Akoko, Ondo State, to attaining academic and professional acclaim at prestigious institutions such as the London School of Economics, Yale University, and Harvard Kennedy School, President Tinubu praised him for demonstrating that “merit, discipline, and integrity are the foundations of true achievement.”
Recalling the inauguration of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms on August 8, 2023, President Tinubu commended Mr. Oyedele’s leadership in driving critical reforms aimed at improving Nigeria’s fiscal environment and raising the country’s tax-to-GDP ratio from 10% to over 13.5%, with a target of 18% within three years.
“Although I am awaiting the harmonised four tax bills for my assent, indications are that the reforms will enable us to reach our targeted tax-to-GDP ratio,” the President said.
He further lauded Mr. Oyedele, former Africa Tax Leader at PwC, for his tireless efforts to simplify the tax system, provide relief for low-income households, and promote inclusive economic growth through fairer fiscal policies.
As Mr. Oyedele marks this milestone, President Tinubu expressed optimism that he will continue to contribute significantly to national development, academia, and youth empowerment through initiatives like the Impact Africa Foundation.
The President prayed for continued strength, wisdom, and fulfilment for Mr. Oyedele in his service to Nigeria and humanity.
