President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep concern over the devastating floods that have struck Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, displacing thousands of residents and inflicting significant damage on critical infrastructure, including the Post Office and Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu described the floods as the worst the region has experienced in decades.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Borno State, particularly those who have lost their homes, businesses, and livelihoods due to the catastrophic overflow of the Alau Dam.
As authorities work to assess the full extent of the destruction, the President has issued an urgent call for the immediate evacuation of residents from the hardest-hit areas to ensure their safety.
President Tinubu also assured Governor Babagana Umara Zulum that the Federal Government stands ready to collaborate with state authorities to address the immediate humanitarian needs of the affected population.
He has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to swiftly mobilize resources and provide critical assistance to the flood victims.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to deploying federal resources to support Borno State during this challenging time, emphasizing that the welfare and safety of the people remain a top priority for his administration.
