President Bola Tinubu has expressed relief and satisfaction over the recent successful military operations that have dealt significant blows to security threats in Nigeria’s north-west region.
The President’s response came in a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The Nigerian military, operating under Operation Hadarin Daji, achieved a major victory on Thursday by neutralizing Halilu Sububu, a notorious bandit leader who had long terrorized communities in Zamfara, Sokoto, and other parts of the region. Sububu’s death marks a key milestone in the fight against insurgency and banditry in the north-west.
In separate operations, security forces eliminated another notorious terrorist, Sani Wala Burki, in a joint military effort in Katsina State, as the military dismantled a terrorist enclave in Kaduna State, successfully rescuing 13 kidnapped students in the process.
These victories follow President Tinubu’s directive to the service chiefs to relocate to the north-west zone until stability is fully restored. The President commended the military high command, intelligence agencies, and troops for their bravery, coordination, and commitment to maintaining peace.
“This success further reassures Nigerians that our security forces are capable of restoring peace and stability across the country,” Tinubu said.
He also praised the entire security apparatus for the improved security situation nationwide and urged them to sustain their momentum until all immediate and potential threats are eliminated.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for the security agencies, emphasizing that the protection of Nigeria remains a top priority. He called on them to continue their efforts until lasting peace is secured across all troubled regions.
