President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles following their emphatic 4–1 win over Gabon in Thursday’s FIFA World Cup qualifying Africa playoff match, describing the performance as a true reflection of the Nigerian spirit — resilient, adaptable, and determined to prevail.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday, President Tinubu lauded the team’s display of courage, balance, and precision, noting that football has long served as one of Nigeria’s greatest symbols of unity and national pride.
“The victory adds fresh momentum to our national spirit and strengthens our resolve to secure a place at the World Cup,” the president said.
Tinubu commended the players, coaching crew, and technical staff for their dedication and professionalism, saying their collective effort has brought joy to millions of Nigerians and renewed faith in the nation’s footballing strength.
He also highlighted the country’s deep reservoir of sporting talent, affirming that the Super Eagles’ determination to reclaim their status among Africa’s football elite remains unwavering.
The president extended appreciation to fans across Nigeria and the diaspora for their passionate support, which he described as a vital source of motivation for the team during crucial matches.
Urging the squad to sustain their focus ahead of the remaining qualifiers, President Tinubu said every game represents another opportunity to demonstrate discipline, teamwork, and the enduring Nigerian character.
“This is the true Nigerian spirit of resilience against all odds. Do not stop until you secure qualification,” Tinubu said. “Super Eagles, keep soaring — the nation stands firmly with you.”
