President Bola Tinubu has expressed heartfelt condolences to the government and people of India over the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who died on Thursday at the age of 92.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended Singh’s instrumental role in fostering strong ties between Nigeria and India.
He particularly noted Singh’s pivotal efforts in establishing the Nigeria-India Strategic Partnership during his tenure, which has continued to enhance political and economic collaboration between the two nations.

“Dr. Singh’s dedication to strengthening the Nigeria-India relationship remains a reference point in the history of our bilateral relations,” the statement read.
President Tinubu also lauded Singh’s contributions to advancing cooperation in key areas such as defence, trade, culture, education, health, science and technology, and information and communications technology (ICT).
Reflecting on Singh’s broader impact, President Tinubu highlighted his significant role in steering India through critical economic reforms during challenging global periods. He described the late leader as a selfless statesman and a distinguished economist whose legacy would continue to inspire many.
President Tinubu further expressed gratitude to the people of India for celebrating Singh’s life and achievements, underscoring his commitment to public service and diplomacy.
Singh served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 and earned a unique place in Nigerian history with his official visit in 2007, during which he addressed a joint session of Nigeria’s National Assembly—a rare honor accorded to select global leaders.
