President Bola Tinubu has been named THISDAY’s Man of the Year for 2024, recognized for his influence on Nigerian governance and reform efforts.

The announcement, made on Tuesday, highlighted Tinubu’s resilience and bold decision-making, despite widespread criticism. The editorial board described him as a transformative figure in a challenging year:

“Whether lampooned as T-pain or lionized as T-gain, Tinubu cannot be accused of lacking courage to take tough decisions or the resolve to stay the course.

“While his governance approach could benefit from greater rigor, consultation, and inclusivity, it is undeniable that Tinubu earned his stripes as the most consequential Nigerian of 2024.”

The board acknowledged Tinubu’s leadership in implementing significant reforms, such as subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, and fiscal adjustments, which have sparked both praise and criticism.

“The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has, through his determination, resilience, and tough decision-making, earned the THISDAY Man of the Year,” the board concluded.
