President Bola Tinubu has reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to the development of the West African region and the broader African continent, emphasizing that fostering regional growth remains a top priority for his administration.
The President made this affirmation on Thursday while receiving Letters of Credence from the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone, Dr. Julius F. Sandy, at the State House in Abuja.

He highlighted Nigeria’s long-standing contributions to Sierra Leone’s stability and development, noting that these efforts align with Nigeria’s broader vision for African progress.
“Nigeria’s interest in developing the West Coast and Africa remains a priority,” President Tinubu stated. “Our decades-long investment in Sierra Leone has significantly contributed to Africa’s progress and strengthened our bilateral relations.”

Dr. Sandy expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s unwavering support, acknowledging the deep-rooted ties between both nations.
He noted that Nigerians play a vital role in Sierra Leone’s economy and society, adding, “In Sierra Leone, more Nigerians are doing business than Sierra Leoneans. Most of my teachers in school were Nigerians. There is no difference between a Nigerian and a Sierra Leonean when walking in the streets of Freetown.”

The reaffirmation of Nigeria’s regional commitment comes as President Tinubu continues to strengthen diplomatic ties across Africa.
During a separate engagement with the new Ethiopian Ambassador to Nigeria, Legesse Geremew Haile, the President stressed the importance of regional peace and security as essential foundations for sustainable development.
“We must continue pursuing peace on our continent. Insecurity detracts from development, and we must work together to ensure stability,” he said.
