President Tinubu to sign performance bond with ministers

President Bola Tinubu’s special adviser on policy coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, has revealed that the president will sign a performance bond with each of his ministers.
In an interview with TVC News on Tuesday, Bala Usman said the performance bond will have key performance indicators (KPIs) that will be evaluated every quarter.
She also said there will be a consequence management framework for those who fail to meet their targets.
“Our office is responsible for ensuring coordination across ministries, departments and agencies. We have started our work effectively,” she said.
“We have also ensured that there is clarity on the policy objectives and deliverables of each MDA of government.
“We are planning to start assessing the performance of each minister in January 2024. We will have quarterly reviews of performance that will lead to an annual score card.
“Besides that, we will have a cabinet retreat in November with Mr. President. At the end of it, each ministry will sign a performance bond with the president.
“The performance bond will spell out what they are expected to do within the one year 2024 budget cycle.
“And we will use the performance bond to monitor the performance of each minister.
“One thing that Mr. President has made clear to us is that performance is very important. He has promised Nigerians to deliver on his agenda and he will make sure his appointees do the same.
“And it is not only for the ministries, but also for the whole governance structure. We all need to know that we have to work hard and deliver on our mandates.”
Bala Usman said Nigerians will see a big difference in how President Tinubu manages his team.
“You will see a huge difference in how President Tinubu makes sure his appointees follow the key performance indicators he gives them,” she said.
“As we know him, he is very committed to fulfilling his promises to the people and I think we will all see that in how he ensures that the ministers deliver.
“And we can see that in the short time we have had a clear economic direction from him and he is very firm in making sure everyone is on board and clear on what they have to do.”
Bala Usman also said security is Tinubu’s top priority.
“Security is President Bola Tinubu’s top priority and he has made sure that all resources are allocated for security deployment,” she said.
“We can see that in our supplementary budget and in the areas where the president has made announcements.
“He has given priority to our security and we can see many achievements by the agencies in the security sector of the country in a short time.”
