Presidential aide: Tinubu govt expands skills training to tackle insecurity

The Presidency is expanding vocational training and entrepreneurship programmes to reduce youth involvement in crime and address the socioeconomic factors fuelling insecurity in Nigeria.
Dr Abiola Arogundade, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (TVEE), disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with retired Major-General Adeyinka Famadewa, Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security.
Arogundade said the proposed collaboration between the two offices would promote economic empowerment, improve employability and create sustainable livelihoods as part of efforts to tackle insecurity through non-military interventions.
She said the initiative would provide young people with alternatives to crime by expanding access to skills development and entrepreneurship opportunities.
“This partnership seeks to strengthen cooperation between both offices in empowering our people, broadening their awareness, and creating sustainable opportunities for their positive engagement,” she said.
“Through these collective efforts, we aim to steer them away from crime and criminality while fostering a safer, more enlightened, and empowered society.”
According to the statement, the two presidential aides agreed on the need to complement military and law enforcement operations with education, vocational training and economic inclusion, particularly for vulnerable youths.
The proposed partnership is expected to address the vulnerability of unemployed and economically disadvantaged young people to recruitment by criminal networks that exploit poverty, limited economic opportunities and social exclusion.
