Progress impossible without unity, Tinubu tells APC leaders at national convention

President Bola Tinubu on Friday declared that unity remains the most critical condition for Nigeria’s political and economic progress, urging members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to remain cohesive despite internal contests and national challenges.

Speaking at the party’s 4th Elective National Convention held at Eagle Square in Abuja, Tinubu said the theme of the gathering, “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” reflects a fundamental reality that national development cannot happen without political stability.

“Our greatest strength has never been in our numbers but in our unity,” the President said, stressing that progress would remain unattainable if personal ambition and internal divisions weaken party discipline.

Tinubu warned that political parties often fail not only through electoral losses but through internal conflicts driven by ego and competing personal interests.

He urged party members to protect the APC’s founding ideals by prioritising collective goals over individual ambitions.

According to him, the convention should send a strong signal that the ruling party remains united, organised and prepared for future political contests.

The President dismissed suggestions that the APC was pursuing a one-party state, stating that democracy thrives on credible opposition capable of challenging government policies.

He said constructive criticism strengthens governance and helps refine public policy, but cautioned against what he described as unfair attacks on recent electoral reforms.
