Prosperity gospel: Between Pastor Yinka Yusuf and former Vice President Osinbajo — by Richard Akinnola
For a pastor that l admire, I’m highly disappointed in Rev. Yinka’s Yusuf’s shade at Prof. Yemi Osinbajo over the latter’s stand on “prosperity gospel”.
He said inter alia: ”Accusing and bashing pastors instead of our politicians for the monumental failure of the Nigerian state is a sign that our psychiatric hospitals in Nigeria needs urgent attention”.
Really? He went on and on and his herd of followers, many of who can’t think independently, went on an excursion of tirades against Osinbajo.
I’m not averse to him criticizing Osinbajo or having a different opinion but common sense should dictate that a resource person invited to speak on a particular topic, along with two other pastors on “prosperity message” would focus on the topic as he did.
Rather, Yinka Yusuf’s angst with him was that he should have veered from the topic and attack politicians, instead of the topic for which he was invited. The same pastors that would prophe-lie for politicians in order to collect their money? Has he forgotten so soon what some of his compromised colleagues did to him in the recent aborted Uyo crusade?
If Rev. Yinka Yusuf is interested in Osinbajo to speak on politics and politicians, he should also organise a programme on such a topic and invite Osinbajo as the Guest Speaker. I’m sure he would oblige.
As for his herd of followers who can’t think independently for themselves or who are enamored with the “prosperity gospel”, they are no better that the rabid followers of some social media content creators because they behave like mob groups.
And as an addendum, I’m sure Rev. Yusuf is probably not aware of the antics of a number of his colleagues who usually came to beg for money at the Villa. Ask Obasanjo and Jonathan. I know as a fact that many pastors didn’t like Osinbajo when he was VP. He was accused of being stingy and never gave out money. I know Rev. Yusuf is not part of these people but these are facts. Many pastors are worse than politicians when it comes to corruption. President Obasanjo had no respect for many of them because of his experience with them as president. The reason he once blurted out -“CAN my foot”.
