A group of youths on Tuesday stormed the Oyo State Government Secretariat in protest over the alleged killing of a student by a stray bullet fired by a policeman.

The incident occurred along Gbagi Market Road in Ibadan, where a police officer was reportedly pursuing a vehicle suspected to be occupied by internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as “Yahoo Boys.”

Tragically, a bullet fired during the chase struck a student who was riding on a motorcycle with his twin brother. The victim was reportedly on his way to sit for his West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exam.

He was rushed to Welfare Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

In reaction to the incident, aggrieved youths, traders, and sympathisers took to the streets and marched to the State Secretariat with the deceased’s remains, demanding justice.

As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Police Command had yet to release an official statement on the incident.
