PSC introduces whistle-blowing policy to tackle recruitment malpractices in police force

By Kunle Sanni –
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved a whistle-blowing policy aimed at curbing malpractices in the recruitment of personnel into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The Commission said the initiative is part of efforts to ensure that the recruitment process remains transparent, merit-based, and free from corruption. It explained that the policy will provide Nigerians with a secure platform to report cases of bribery, fraud, or unethical practices during recruitment exercises.
A statement from the Commission noted that the move is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly Priority Area 2 on National Security and Priority Area 8 on Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption.
“We believe that a credible, professional, and trustworthy Police Force is the cornerstone of national security and that reporting malpractices is a patriotic duty that directly contributes to a safer Nigeria,” the PSC stated.
The Commission encouraged Nigerians to report cases of solicitation or acceptance of bribes in exchange for recruitment slots, manipulation of test results, falsification of credentials with official connivance, sexual harassment, extortion of candidates, inclusion of ghost names, impersonation during examinations, or any other form of undue influence by recruitment officials and middlemen.
While reports can be made anonymously, the Commission advised complainants to provide detailed information such as the nature of the incident, location, date, and names of individuals involved. It added that providing contact details would assist investigators in following up when necessary.
