PSG humble Man City in Etihad goal fest

Manchester City were brought down to earth by a masterclass from Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the Etihad Stadium.

City, watched by former manager Pep Guardiola on his return to the club, were playing their first home game since being found guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules.

Amid an atmosphere of defiance from City supporters, PSG stunned Enzo Maresca’s side by racing into a three-goal lead before half-time.

Desire Doue opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a low shot past City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma before setting up Ousmane Dembele for the second with a perfect cross two minutes later.

PSG continued to tear City apart, with Vitinha adding a third in the 32nd minute after a clinical finish following superb link-up play between Maghnes Akliouche and Warren Zaire-Emery.

Maresca made three half-time substitutions, and City emerged as a transformed side after the break, creating several chances before Erling Haaland pulled one back with a flicked header from Iliman Ndiaye’s cross eight minutes into the second half.

However, City’s hopes of a comeback suffered a setback in the 62nd minute when Donnarumma initially saved Akliouche’s shot, only for the ball to drop behind him and roll into the net.

City refused to give up, with Haaland scoring his second goal and seeing another effort brilliantly saved by PSG goalkeeper Matvei Safonov.
The final drama came when Donnarumma saved Ferran Torres’ late penalty, capping a memorable performance for PSG.
