Reject planned nationwide protests, VP Shettima urges Nigerians

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to reject the planned nationwide protests set to begin on August 1, emphasizing the need for unity and focused development in the country.

Speaking on Saturday in Maiduguri, Borno State, where he was the Special Guest of Honour at the wedding ceremony of four daughters of the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al Amin El-Kanemi, Shettima stressed that protests are not a solution to national challenges but a path to the destruction of lives and property.

“Protests have never solved a nation’s problems; they only lead to destruction,” Shettima stated. “I implore all our youths to avoid the path of anarchy and destruction. There can be no development without peace, and no peace without development.”

The Vice President, who personally gave one of the Shehu’s daughters’ hand in marriage, urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which he said is committed to addressing the nation’s inherited challenges.

“President Tinubu feels the pulse of the nation and is dedicated to resolving our issues,” Shettima said. “I urge Nigerians to keep faith with the Federal Government. Soon, the administration’s efforts to reposition the nation with a powerful economy and social welfare will become evident.”

Highlighting the gradual return of peace to Borno State, Shettima called on the people to rally around Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who is working tirelessly to address developmental deficits and support the downtrodden.

“This is a time for unity and focused development,” Shettima noted. “The only way to show solidarity with our governor is to ignore the bandits and troublemakers who stir mischief from abroad. We must learn from the chaos in Sudan, Syria, and Libya and not fall into the same trap.”

The Vice President assured that President Tinubu is committed to improving the welfare and lives of Nigerians, leaving no stone unturned in this endeavor.

Shettima also extended his best wishes to the newlywed couples, saying, “We wish them peace and marital bliss. May Allah bless their unions with offspring that will be the pride of their families and the Ummah. Insha Allah, these marriages will be greatly blessed.”

The wedding ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, former Deputy Governors of Borno and Adamawa States Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and Crowther Seth, APC Deputy National Chairman (North) Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, Senator M.T. Monguno, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, all members of the House of Representatives from Borno State, and members of the State House of Assembly.

Also present were the Secretary to the Borno State Government, party stalwarts, Hon. Mutawalli Kashim Ibrahim Imam, the Shehus of Dikwa and Bama, Emirs of Biu, Shani, Gwoza, Askira, Uba, Damaturu, Fika, Gazargamu, Potiskum, and many others.
