Reno Omokri to Mexico, Fani-Kayode to Germany as Tinubu confirms 65 ambassadors

President Bola Tinubu has approved the postings of 65 ambassadors whose nominations were confirmed in December 2025, assigning them to various countries and international organisations.
Among the notable appointments, former presidential spokesperson Reno Omokri was assigned to Mexico, while ex-aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode will serve in Germany. Mahmood Yakubu, former INEC chairman, was posted to Qatar, and Jimoh Ibrahim, the Ondo South senator, was designated Nigeria’s permanent representative to the United Nations.
The appointments were announced on Friday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s special adviser on information and strategy. He said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would immediately begin induction programmes for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners.
The list of non-career ambassadors includes Grace Bent to Togo, Ita Enang to South Africa, Victor Ikpeazu to Spain, Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu to Israel, Paul Oga Adikwu to the Vatican, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas to the Philippines, Abasi Braimah to Hungary, Erelu Angela Adebayo to Portugal, Olumilua Oluwayimika Ayotunwa to Japan, and many others.
Career diplomats also received postings, such as Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka to Côte d’Ivoire, Besto Maimuna Ibrahim to Niger, Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria, Ahmed Mohammed Monguno to Egypt, Jane Adams Michael to Jamaica, Chima Geoggrey Lioma David to Mali, and numerous others across Africa, Asia, and Europe.
These appointments follow the January postings that began with Kayode Are, former DSS director-general, to the United States, Ayodele Oke to France, and Amin Dalhatu to the United Kingdom.
The ambassadorial postings cover strategic countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, reflecting Nigeria’s diplomatic priorities under the Tinubu administration.
