REPORT: Wike, Fubara hold four-hour reconciliation meeting in Rivers

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara have held a closed-door meeting in Port Harcourt as efforts to reconcile the two political camps gain momentum.

The meeting, which lasted about four hours on Tuesday, brought together Wike, APC governorship candidate Kingsley Chinda and their supporters, as well as Fubara and members of his political camp.

Wike and Chinda arrived at the governor’s residence in Port Harcourt at about 4pm for the meeting, which ended around 8pm, TheCable reported on Tuesday.

The engagement marks a significant development in the efforts to resolve the political differences that have divided the state’s political leadership and supporters in recent years.

It was also the first time Fubara would personally host and participate in a reconciliation meeting involving his supporters and members of the opposing camp.

The political crisis in Rivers had particularly strained relations between Fubara and members of the state House of Assembly, most of whom were regarded as loyal to Wike, his predecessor as governor.

The dispute escalated in March 2025 when President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers, suspending Fubara, his deputy and members of the state House of Assembly.

The emergency rule was lifted in September 2025, paving the way for Fubara and the lawmakers to return to office.

Since then, political engagements between the rival camps have increasingly focused on rebuilding relationships and easing tensions.

However, Tuesday’s meeting ended without any of the participants addressing journalists.

Neither Wike, Chinda and their supporters nor Fubara and his team disclosed details of the discussions or announced any specific agreement reached during the meeting.
