Resident doctors suspend 2-month strike at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital branch, Ogbomoso, has suspended its two-month indefinite strike following the intervention of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
The suspension was announced in a letter dated October 1, 2025, and addressed to the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Olakulehin Olawale.
The industrial action, which began on July 29, had paralysed medical services at the tertiary health facility, forcing patients in Ogbomoso and surrounding communities to seek care elsewhere.
According to the letter signed by NARD branch President, Dr. Adedokun Stephen, and General Secretary, Dr. Mustapha Adedapo, the decision was taken after an Emergency General Meeting of members.
The doctors explained that the governor’s visit to the hospital on September 30, during which he assured them of the government’s commitment to addressing their grievances, influenced their decision to suspend the strike.
“This decision was reached in honour of the visit of His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, Executive Governor of Oyo State, to our institution on September 30, 2025, and in recognition of his sincere commitment to resolving the longstanding demands of our association,” the letter partly read.
NARD further stated that it had received the governor’s assurances with “optimism and goodwill” and announced that members would resume full clinical services by 8 a.m. on Thursday, October 2.
The association, however, urged the state government to sustain its efforts towards repositioning LAUTECH Teaching Hospital for improved healthcare delivery.
