Residents fear reprisal as armed thugs beat soldier to stupor in Osun

Residents of Iree in Boripe Local Government of Osun State are currently under fear of attack following a clash between the Nigerian Army and some thugs.

It was gathered that on Tuesday evening, a soldier was beaten to stupor by a group of armed thugs led by a man simply identified as Gbedu at the Poly Junction area of the community.

According to eyewitnesses, the Nigerian Army came back aggressively pursuing the residents of the community and the traders in the market.

A video obtained showed how the thugs assaulted the soldier on the street.

An anonymous source confirmed to our correspondent that the soldier was injured on his head, leaving him bleeding until he was rescued away.

Residents are now leaving in fear following the incident.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Osun Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the incident.

According to her, “Some miscreants in Iree attacked some personnel of the Nigerian Army who were on a mission to Osun State Polytechnic, Iree and wounded some of them. What led to the attack was still sketchy.”
