Residents of Alagbon Odetunde community of Moro Local Government Area in Kwara State have commended the Federal Government and BUA Group for the ongoing 130-kilometre concrete road construction, which they say has opened up their communities to development and improved accessibility.
The road project, being undertaken by the Federal Ministry of Works and flagged off by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq a few months ago, stretches from Bode Saadu Junction through Alagbon Odetunde in Moro Local Government and is expected to terminate at Kaiama, all within the Kwara North Senatorial District.
During a media tour by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, community members expressed appreciation for the project, describing it as a long-awaited infrastructure boost for rural dwellers.
A youth leader in the area, Mr. Suliman Odetunde, urged both the state and federal governments to complement the road project by establishing a tertiary institution in the community. He said the improved road network now makes the area attractive for investors and educational development.
“We want people to come and invest in our community. There is a good road now, and we have vast land for investors,” Odetunde said.
He thanked the government for the initiative and called on private investors to explore opportunities in the commercial, industrial, and educational sectors of the area.
Also speaking, a trader, Mrs. Kudirat Abdulfatai, who has lived in the community for seven years, noted that the road project has significantly reduced transportation costs. “Before the construction, we paid about ₦1,000 to go to the market, but now it costs just ₦500 to and from,” she said.
She joined other residents in calling for the establishment of a tertiary institution and industries in the community, saying such investments would further improve livelihoods and promote economic growth.
