Rivers State Government suspends political appointees

The Rivers State Government has announced the suspension of all political office holders and appointees in the state, effective Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

A statement issued by the Chief of Staff to the Administrator confirmed that the suspension was directed by the Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, CFR, under the authority granted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

The suspension affects key government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, all Honourable Commissioners, as well as chairmen and members of all boards, councils of agencies, commissions, institutions, and parastatals. Also affected are all Special Advisers, Special Assistants, and Senior Special Assistants.

The affected officials have been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). Where there is no Permanent Secretary, the most senior director or head of administration is to take over.

The directive is expected to have immediate administrative implications, as the suspended officials vacate their positions in compliance with the government order.
