RSF urges UN Security Council to act after deadly strike kills journalists in Gaza

International non-governmental organization (NGO), Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has called for an urgent United Nations Security Council meeting following an Israeli strike in southern Gaza that killed five journalists at Nasser Hospital.
RSF strongly condemned the attack, with Director-General Thibaut Bruttin describing it as a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2222, which safeguards journalists operating in conflict zones.
The organization demanded that the Security Council take concrete measures to end impunity for attacks on journalists and ensure the protection of Palestinian media workers.
The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights also condemned the strike, emphasizing the need to protect civilians and journalists amid ongoing hostilities.
The Spanish government labeled the attack a “flagrant and unacceptable violation” of international humanitarian law, while the UK Foreign Secretary expressed horror and called for an immediate ceasefire.
RSF highlighted that attacks on journalists not only endanger media personnel but also threaten the public’s right to information in conflict zones.
International reactions have continued to pour in, with multiple governments and human rights organizations urging accountability and heightened protection for journalists covering the Gaza crisis.
The appeal from RSF adds to growing global calls for stronger mechanisms to safeguard journalists and civilians in areas of armed conflict.
