Rufus Giwa Polytechnic back on track after years of neglect — Rector

By Boye Oyeyemi –

After years of inactivity and declining morale, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, has begun what its management described as a “total revival”, following sweeping reforms and funding support from the Ondo State Government.

The Acting Rector, Mr Olorunwa Adegun, who spoke during a press conference to announce the institution’s 12th–23rd combined convocation, said the polytechnic had regained its footing through decisive interventions that restored key academic and business units.

He recalled that the school’s last convocation was held in 2013, but that situation has now changed.

“During one of the interactive sessions I was privileged to have with Mr Governor, he expressed shock at the report that the Convocation Ceremony had almost gone into extinction in the institution,” Adegun said.

Adegun noted that the governor not only approved funds for the long-delayed convocation but also for the re-accreditation of 68 academic programmes, all of which recorded 100 per cent success with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

He added that several moribund ventures, including the institution’s bakery, water factory, guest house, and staff schools, had been revived and were now operating effectively.

According to him, plans are underway to transform the polytechnic’s vast land into a major agricultural hub and to establish a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Vehicle Conversion Centre as part of its new technical initiatives.

Adegun described the progress as proof that Rufus Giwa Polytechnic “is back on its feet”, stressing that its renewed energy and improved image have rekindled confidence among students, staff, and the host community.
