Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday announced the arrival of three brand-new train sets—comprising 12 coaches—for the Lagos Blue Line Rail, a move aimed at improving mass transit and easing the daily commute for residents.
The governor made the announcement via a Facebook post, describing the development as a significant step toward making public transportation in Lagos faster, more comfortable, and more efficient.
“This means shorter wait times and more comfortable trips for everyone using the Blue Line,” he wrote. “It’s a step forward in our efforts to make daily commute in Lagos less stressful and more reliable.”
The Blue Line, which began operations in 2023, currently runs from Marina to Mile 2. Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed that construction is ongoing to extend the line to Okokomaiko, with completion targeted for 2026.
The extension is expected to ease traffic congestion along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway and bring improved rail access to more communities across the state.
“We’re not stopping here,” Sanwo-Olu added. “I know it’s been a long time coming, but I truly believe we’re building something that will change how we move around this city for the better.”
The newly arrived train sets will be deployed soon to increase service frequency, reduce overcrowding, and make the Blue Line a more reliable option for thousands of daily commuters.
The announcement aligns with Lagos State’s THEMES++ development agenda, which prioritizes transport upgrades. As the Blue Line expands and new trains are added, residents remain hopeful that the long-awaited rail transformation is finally taking shape.
