Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday commissioned several electrification projects in the Badagry axis of Lagos, saying the projects will bring lasting benefits to residents and businesses in the area.
The projects include three high capacity tower crossings, the rehabilitation of 33kv distribution lines along the Gaji–Seme corridor and Owode–Apa corridor, as well as the connection of 51 transformer substations.
The governor, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, said the projects go beyond providing electricity, noting that the projects are aimed at restoring confidence and improving the living conditions of residents in the area.
Hamzat explained that the projects are part of the administration’s THEMES+ Development Agenda, which focuses on expanding energy access and strengthening infrastructure across the state.
According to him, the state government is also working to improve electricity regulation following the inauguration of the board of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
He added that improved electricity supply will help traders extend their business hours, allow artisans and small manufacturers to increase productivity, and help schools and healthcare facilities operate more effectively.
The deputy governor further indicated that the electrification projects will strengthen power distribution, providing more stable electricity to thousands of homes, shops and businesses.
Obafemi Hamzat also described Badagry as an important gateway linking Nigeria to the Republic of Benin and the wider West African region, while urgung residents of Gbaji, Seme, Owode, Apa and other communities to protect the infrastructure and ensure it continues to benefit the area for many years.
