Sanwo-Olu gifts three-bedroom house to veteran actress Iya Awero

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has disclosed that his administration gifted veteran actress Olanrewaju Adeshina, popularly known as Iya Awero, a three-bedroom house in recognition of her contribution to Nollywood.

Sanwo-Olu disclosed this in a post on his social media pages on Saturday, sharing footage of the presentation of the house keys to the actress.

The governor said the gesture reflected his administration’s commitment to honouring legends while they were still alive.

He said the house was presented to Iya Awero in 2021, noting that the veteran actress had spent 57 years in the acting profession without owning a house.

“In 2021, we presented veteran actress Iya Awero with a three-bedroom home, recognising her decades of contribution to Nollywood,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu said her reaction to the gesture reinforced the need to appreciate people who had contributed significantly to the country’s culture and entertainment industry during their lifetime.

Reacting to the gesture, Iya Awero described Sanwo-Olu as “a good person and a caring leader,” recalling his words to her that, “You make people laugh away their sorrows, we will also make you happy”.

She concluded her remarks with prayers for the governor.
