Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has described Lagos markets as vibrant hubs of culture, innovation, and social connection that go beyond commercial transactions. He made this known on Monday during the inauguration of new members of the Lagos State Market Advisory Council (LASMAC) at the Banquet Hall, Alausa, Ikeja.
Sanwo-Olu said the council plays a crucial role in managing and developing Lagos markets, which are not only vital to the state’s economy but also central to the life of its communities.
“Our markets are more than just places to buy and sell; they are lively hubs of culture, innovation, and social connection. They support the livelihoods of millions of Lagosians and play a vital role in the economic growth of the state,” he said.

He added that his administration prioritizes the development, security, and sustainability of markets, with LASMAC serving as a key platform for inclusive governance by uniting traders, leaders, and government officials.
“LASMAC acts as a vital hub for dialogue and teamwork. It ensures traders’ voices are heard, their concerns addressed, and their businesses supported,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu also expressed appreciation to the outgoing LASMAC members for their dedication and contributions to market security and governance, noting that their legacy would inspire the incoming members.
In his remarks, Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mr. Bolaji Kayode Robert, said the inauguration aligns with the bye-laws establishing LASMAC and noted that the new members were selected from a diverse group of passionate advocates for market development.
He emphasized that the council members are leaders in their respective fields and will play a significant role in driving market reforms and promoting inclusive economic growth across the state.
