Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday said his administration will collaborate with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to strengthen the digital economy for the benefit of Lagos State residents.

Sanwo-Olu stated that the partnership aligns with his administration’s commitment to Education and Technology, the third pillar of the government’s THEMES+ developmental agenda.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by an NCC delegation led by its Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Aminu Maida, at the Lagos House, Ikeja, the governor pledged to work with the commission to protect critical infrastructure and advance telecommunications and the digital economy.

He disclosed that his administration has attracted approximately $1.2 billion in investments from various organizations into the digital economy.

“We have it on record that within five years of our administration, we have attracted investments exceeding $1.2 billion directly into the digital space—building data centers, hyper-scale data centers, landing submarine cables, and creating a network of users and providers,” Sanwo-Olu said.

In his remarks, NCC Executive Vice Chairman/CEO Aminu Maida commended Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration for its developmental strides, particularly in telecommunications, technology, and the digital economy.

He described Lagos as a strategic partner of the NCC and emphasized the need for collaboration to protect digital infrastructure, address Right of Way issues, and ensure adequate notifications during road construction and rehabilitation.

Maida also highlighted that President Bola Tinubu signed an Executive Order in July 2024 to safeguard key infrastructure nationwide. He called for sustained efforts to protect digital infrastructure across Nigeria.
