Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday described the All Progressives Congress governorship primary election as peaceful, orderly and reflective of internal party democracy after participating in the exercise at Ward E3 in Lagos Island Local Government Area.

Sanwo-Olu, who arrived at the polling venue alongside his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, at about 11:44 a.m., said the direct primary system gave party members at the grassroots the opportunity to participate freely in the selection of the party’s governorship candidate.

Speaking after casting his vote, the governor openly declared support for his deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, expressing confidence that he would emerge as the APC candidate and win the 2027 governorship election.

He also commended party members for turning out in large numbers to participate in the exercise and support Hamzat’s candidacy.

Sanwo-Olu praised officials from the APC national headquarters and the state leadership for what he described as the peaceful and transparent conduct of the primary election.

According to him, electoral officials and party representatives arrived early at the venue, ensuring a smooth and credible process for party members.

The governor further noted that the atmosphere at the polling centre remained calm and cordial despite the large turnout recorded before noon.

Also speaking, Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, Alade Folawiyo, described the turnout as impressive and expressed confidence that Hamzat would consolidate on the achievements of the Sanwo-Olu administration if elected governor of Lagos State in 2027.
