Sanwo-Olu urges ECOWAS to uphold rule of law for regional unity

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to recommit to the rule of law as a foundation for peace, prosperity, and inclusion across the region.

Sanwo-Olu made the call during the ongoing Sensitisation Outreach and External Court Sessions of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice held at EKO Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

He emphasized the importance of justice and legal institutions in fostering regional integration and urged participants to leverage the forum to deepen ties and unlock the potential of the West African community.

“Lagos has always been a vital hub for trade, investment, and cultural exchange, embodying the spirit of unity and progress that ECOWAS represents,” the governor said.

“Only by coming together and dedicating ourselves to the rule of law can we truly build a peaceful, thriving, and inclusive West African community where everyone’s rights are safeguarded and opportunities are plentiful,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu described the ECOWAS Court’s presence in Lagos as a testament to the city’s strategic importance in regional affairs and its commitment to accessible justice.

He noted that the court’s outreach initiatives and external sessions would help improve public understanding of its mission and strengthen collaboration between national institutions and the regional court.
