Sanwo-Olu urges potential army recruits to embody integrity, loyalty

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has charged 88 potential recruits of the Nigerian Army from Lagos State to uphold the values of integrity, professionalism, and loyalty as they embark on their journey into military service.

Speaking at the departure ceremony for the 141 potential recruits of the 88 Regular Recruit Intake (RRI) at the 9 Brigade Nigerian Army Cantonment in Maryland, Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, highlighted the significance of their commitment to the nation’s security and prosperity.

“The Nigerian Army symbolizes resilience, valour, and the indomitable spirit of our nation,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“You are embracing a calling that transcends personal ambition, committing yourselves to the safety, stability, and prosperity of our country. This is no small feat, and we recognize the sacrifices it entails.”

The governor urged the recruits to embody the ideals of the RRI, reminding them that their actions reflect on the state they represent.

“Lagos is a beacon of excellence and leadership. As ambassadors of our state, we are confident you will uphold its honour and distinction,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu assured the recruits of the unwavering support of the Lagos State Government, emphasizing that the state stands firmly behind them. He encouraged them to foster unity and strength within the military, saying, “Together, you are braver and stronger to face any challenge.”

The departure ceremony, described as the culmination of months of rigorous training, marked the transformation of the recruits into soldiers ready to uphold the legacy of the Nigerian Army.

In her remarks, Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, commended the recruits for their dedication and the state government for its support.

She noted that the recruits had been well cared for, receiving accommodations, feeding, and stipends to aid their development.

“You have been nurtured like children from the womb. Now, it is your duty to make Lagos State proud,” Salu-Hundeyin said, acknowledging their exceptional performance during training.

Brigadier General Olawale Mathew Oyekola, Commander of the 9 Brigade, praised the synergy between the Nigerian Army and the Lagos State Government.

He emphasized that the programme was designed to empower Lagos recruits to excel during their training, positioning them as exemplary representatives of the state.
