Security forces repel armed attack in Kwara’s Babanla community
By Mosunmola Ayobami, Ilorin –
The Kwara State Government has established an immediate security cordon around Babanla, a community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, following a security breach by armed criminals.
On Friday, the criminals targeted a police station, and attempted to loot a few grocery shops and a hotel in the community before they were repelled by security forces and courageous members of the community.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the government commended the Nigerian Army, gallant police officers, and residents for their swift response to the incident.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who has been in constant touch with security commanders and local vigilantes, directed a sustained security lockdown of the area to neutralise the threat and ensure public safety.
“While further briefings are awaited, the Governor reassures the public that concerted efforts are being made, in coordination with the Office of the National Security Adviser, to cleanse the area of the criminals,” the statement read.
He also urged residents to give maximum support to security agencies and not to panic as operations continue in the area.
