Security is everyone’s duty, Aiyedatiwa says as new Amotekun facilities open

Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has described security governance as a collective responsibility, emphasising that it is a continuous process requiring citizen participation and consistent government backing. He stated this on Monday at the headquarters of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, in Alagbaka, Akure, where he reaffirmed that protecting lives and property remains central to his administration’s “OUR EASE” policy agenda.

The governor commissioned the newly completed Command and Control Centre and Training Auditorium during the event, which also featured the maiden Annual General Meeting of the Amotekun Corps Cooperative Society. He said the facilities would significantly enhance operational efficiency, intelligence coordination, and tactical preparedness.

Aiyedatiwa praised the agency’s leadership, especially Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, for the commitment and sacrifice invested in completing the projects. He assured that the state government would continue to provide the necessary support to strengthen the Corps.

The governor also highlighted the strong collaboration among security agencies in Ondo State, noting that the synergy has made the state one of the most peaceful in the country. He added that the new Training Auditorium reflects his administration’s commitment to developing well-trained, disciplined, and knowledge-driven security personnel.

He said the prompt release of funds for the facilities demonstrated the government’s dedication to the welfare and professional growth of Amotekun officers. Aiyedatiwa also paid tribute to the late former governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, describing him as a visionary whose courage led to the establishment of the Amotekun Corps.

Reaffirming his support for the agency, the governor announced the approval for the recruitment of 500 additional personnel, alongside continued investment in logistics, training, welfare, and other resources vital to effective security operations.

In his remarks, Commander Adeleye said the growth of the Corps since 2020 has shown that community-rooted security structures, backed by political will, can effectively tackle emerging threats. He credited the agency’s achievements to its emphasis on operational capacity, rapid response, and community-based intelligence.

Adeleye also highlighted ongoing intelligence-driven operations and detailed recent training conducted for management staff, zonal commanders, local government coordinators, administrative officers, and operational personnel. Security heads, including the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, and DSS Director, Samaila Sagiru, commended the governor’s support and pledged continued inter-agency collaboration.
