The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress senatorial candidate for Ekiti Central ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bamidele secured the ticket unopposed following the conclusion of the party’s screening process for senatorial aspirants in Ekiti State.
His emergence was confirmed in the list of cleared aspirants released by the APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Arugungu.
The list also showed that the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Adeyemi Adaramodu, former Senate Minority Leader, Biodun Olujimi, and Bamidele Faparusi were cleared for the Ekiti South Senatorial District race.
For Ekiti North Senatorial District, the APC cleared the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, Cyril Fasuyi, alongside Ayo Arise, Oladipupo Bamisaye and Chief Oluwadare Owolabi.
Bamidele’s emergence means he will contest for the Ekiti Central senatorial seat on the APC platform for a third consecutive term.
The Senate Leader first won the party’s senatorial ticket in 2019 after defeating the then-incumbent senator, Fatimat Raji-Rasaki, during the APC primary election.
He was also returned unopposed as the party’s candidate in 2023, with supporters attributing his continued acceptance to his legislative performance and constituency representation.
