‘Shettima is no spare tyre’ – Fasua fires back at Babachir Lawal

Prominent businessman and Chairman of Lagos Airport Hotel, Prince Peter Oyeleye Fasua, has strongly defended Vice President Kashim Shettima against recent criticisms, particularly those made by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal.
Fasua condemned Lawal’s description of Shettima as a “flat spare tyre” and his call for the vice president to resign, labeling the remarks as irresponsible and politically motivated.
In a statement released on Sunday, Fasua accused certain Northern political figures of pushing an agenda aimed at undermining the Tinubu-Shettima administration and reclaiming power prematurely.
“What exactly is their problem? Power left them less than two years ago, and they are already desperate to get it back,” he said.
He described the ongoing attacks as the handiwork of “fifth columnists” and “power-drunk politicians” who are uncomfortable with the current power structure and are bent on destabilising the government.
Drawing comparisons, Fasua recalled how past Northern leaders like the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and former President Muhammadu Buhari, despite facing serious health issues, were supported without such pressure to step down, highlighting what he perceives as a double standard in the current political discourse.
