Shettima leads FG delegation to Emir of Zuru’s funeral

…conveys Tinubu’s condolences

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday led the Federal Government delegation to the state funeral of the late Emir of Zuru, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (rtd), describing the revered monarch as a patriotic leader whose legacies will endure.

Speaking at the ceremony in Zuru, Kebbi State, Shettima conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s condolences to the Kebbi State Government, the emir’s family, and the people of Zuru.

“I am here at the behest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to personally convey his deepest condolences,” the Vice President said. “It is a sad day for the nation as our royal father is laid to rest. His entire life was devoted to service to humanity and to Nigeria. May God grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.”

Shettima also commended the role of traditional institutions in sustaining peace across the country and urged continued unity in all parts of Nigeria.

Responding on behalf of the family, Sadiq Sani Sami, eldest son of the late monarch, thanked President Tinubu for the show of respect, recalling that his father was known for humility, generosity, and dedication to his people.

The late Emir, who died on August 16, 2025, after a protracted illness in London, was buried in the garden of his private residence in Zuru, in accordance with his wishes. Military personnel paid their last respects to the former senior officer in line with tradition.

Dignitaries at the funeral included Kebbi State Governor Nasiru Idris, Sultan of Sokoto Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar III, the 14th Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former Niger State Governor Sani Bello, and several top government officials, politicians, and traditional rulers.
