Shettima mourns 25 killed in Maiduguri blasts, says no religion supports violence

Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed his condolences over the killing of 25 people in multiple explosions that rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Monday, stressing that no religion supports the taking of innocent lives.
Speaking on Tuesday at the closing session of the Annual Ramadan Tafsir at the State House Mosque in Abuja ahead of his planned visit to Maiduguri, the Vice President described the attacks as senseless and prayed for the victims and their families.

He said the sanctity of human life remains a central teaching of all major religions and called for an end to acts of terrorism.
“No religion sanctions the killing of the innocent,” Shettima said. “May the lives of the 25 innocent souls who lost their lives in Maiduguri rest in peace. May Allah grant their souls eternal rest and give their families the strength to bear the losses.”
The Vice President also prayed for an end to terrorism, asking God to either guide those responsible towards the right path or remove them entirely.

Shettima urged Nigerians to continue praying for the country and for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking that God grant the leadership wisdom, courage and fairness in governance.
Reflecting on the significance of Ramadan, he noted that the holy month serves as a reminder of humility, accountability and the temporary nature of power.

According to him, leadership should be guided not only by policies but also by conscience, restraint and the fear of God.
