Shooting Stars’ coach’s death takes shine off ValueJet pre-season tourney

By Tosin Omojola –

The sudden death of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan’s assistant coach, Akin Olowookere, took the shine off day two of the ongoing 2025 ValueJet Pre-season Tournament in Ikenne.

Olowookere, who was unveiled recently alongside other technical crew members, slumped during the team’s training session at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode, and died in the process.

The development forced the postponement of the team’s matchday two fixture against Abia Warriors, with organisers expected to fix a new date for the tie.

However, other matchday two encounters went ahead as scheduled.

In the first match of the day, hosts Remo Stars and fellow CAF Champions League campaigners, Rivers United, battled to a goalless draw.

With the scarcity of goals in the opening tie, fans were later treated to a five-goal thriller.

CAF Confederation Cup campaigners, Kwara United, defeated Ikorodu City 3-2 in an entertaining contest.
