Six persons have been arraigned before an Akure Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over separate allegations of land grabbing, trespass, encroachment and obtaining N18 million under false pretences.
The defendants were arraigned in three separate cases before Magistrate O. Omotosho by the Ondo State Anti-Graft Agency and the police, and all pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In the first case, the anti-graft agency charged Alake Kayode with conspiracy, encroachment and the alleged fraudulent takeover of five plots at Igunshin Community Layout, Akure.
Prosecutor O.E. Akintan told the court that Kayode and others still at large allegedly conspired between 2024 and 2026 to take over the property belonging to Akinsominu Akinsokeji Olubunmi.
In the second case, Kehinde Olomola and Adanlawo Victoria were arraigned over alleged land grabbing, trespass and encroachment, with the prosecution urging the court to remand them for allegedly failing to honour several invitations before their arrest.
In the third case, Bayode Abidemi, 51, Bayode Fabilola, 51, and Adebusuyi Bayode, 50, were accused by the police of conspiring to obtain N18 million from Hellen Yemisi Adewole by allegedly falsely presenting themselves as owners of a property at No. 7 Iromu Street, Oba-Ile, Akure.
Police prosecutor Folasade Adeyemi said the alleged transaction occurred between February 25 and March 5, 2026, adding that the defendants allegedly converted the money to their personal use after receiving it, while their lawyers separately sought bail on the grounds that they were presumed innocent and would not abscond.
Magistrate Omotosho granted Kayode N1 million bail with two sureties, while Olomola and Victoria each received N1 million bail with two sureties. The three defendants in the alleged N18 million fraud case were granted N2 million bail each with two sureties in like sum, with the cases adjourned to October 2, 27 and 29, 2026, respectively, for further proceedings.
